Celebrating David Suzuki's 90th Birthday

Celebrating David Suzuki's 90th Birthday

For the Tawnshi team, being part of Legacy: A Celebration of David at 90, presented by the David Suzuki Foundation, is one of those moments we'll never forget.

The evening brought together an extraordinary group of artists, storytellers, and changemakers, including Bruce Cockburn, Jane Fonda, Al Gore, Rick Hansen, Chantal Kreviazuk, Sarah McLachlan, Danny Michel, William Prince, George Stroumboulopoulos, and Tanya Tagaq, to celebrate David Suzuki's remarkable legacy and his lifelong commitment to protecting our planet.

More than a birthday celebration, the event was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together with courage, compassion, and a shared purpose.

Creating New Experiences Through Food

One of the greatest joys of our work is introducing guests to ingredients they may have never experienced before.

While sharing our modern Indigenous charcuterie, we had the pleasure of watching David Suzuki discover one of our favourite seasonal ingredients: onion flowers.

These delicate blossoms are as beautiful as they are flavourful. They begin with subtle floral sweetness before finishing with the unmistakable bite of fresh onion, a balance that surprises almost everyone who tries them.

David correctly recognized that unique flavour profile, describing the delicate interplay between the sweetness of the flower and the familiar onion finish. Seeing someone who has spent a lifetime observing and appreciating the natural world enjoy a new culinary experience was a moment I'll always remember.

To delight David Suzuki with something he hadn't experienced before has earned a permanent place on my personal highlight reel.

Food That Starts Conversations

At Tawnshi, we believe food has the power to do more than nourish.

It can spark curiosity.

It can create conversation.

It can deepen our connection to the land, the seasons, and the incredible ingredients that surround us.

Whether we're catering a corporate conference, a fundraising gala, or an intimate celebration, our goal is always the same: to create memorable moments that guests carry with them long after the event has ended.

We're honoured to have played a small part in such a meaningful evening and grateful to the David Suzuki Foundation for bringing together so many inspiring voices in celebration of a remarkable life.

Thank you for allowing us to share our food, a little piece of Indigenous culinary tradition, during this unforgettable celebration.
